Obituary for Joseph Gregory "Greg" Salazar
Joseph Gregory “Greg” Salazar, entered into rest peacefully at his home in La Junta where he was surrounded by his family members and fur babies. In 1952, he was born to Fred Joseph Salazar and Mary Trujillo Salazar in Alamosa, CO. He was 65 years of age. Greg attended school in Alamosa and graduated with the class of 1970. He then married his high school sweetheart, Georgiana Madril, on June 13, 1969. Greg immediately began a family where he had his three beautiful daughters, Denise, Debbie, and Diana. The Salazar family moved to Pampa, TX and Greg started his 45-year career as the ‘Kirby Man’. He then moved his family to La Junta, CO to be closer to loved ones. In addition to the Kirby Co, he worked for USPS, Valley Oil, and, after becoming a grandpa, he began driving busses for the East Otero School District. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus Council #1161, a lecturer, and Eucharistic minister for our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish. He, unknowingly, was a mentor, best friend, hero, favorite uncle, papa to all, and a legend. He left a lasting impact on everyone he had met. His hobbies included spending time with his family at every wedding, graduation, birth, baptismal, birthday, BBQ, and reunion. He loved to ride motorcycles, fish, play pool, do Taekwondo, go on walks, teach all of the kids to play chess, watch westerns, sing, play footsies with all of the little ones, and teach trade skills of a huge variety, so one could become independent.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Georgiana Madril Salazar, children; Denise (Sam) Salas, Debbie Salazar, Diana (Billy) Remick, grandchildren; DeAnna Salas, Khayman Martinez, Karsen (Troy) Eisenbarth, Kyler Salazar, Rayann Remick, David Salas, Riley Remick, Ryan Remick, Trisha French, Noah Barrett, great grandchildren; Mikhail Eisenbarth, MeeLa Roller, Isabella Meyer, siblings; Jim (Karen) Salazar, Steve (Patti) Salazar, Shirley (Dennis) Garcia, Fred Salazar, Allen Budiselich, Fernando Martinez, Susan Sandoval Martinez, Linda Owens, Joy Salazar. As well as, numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends who have become family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Salazar, sister; Priscilla Salazar Martinez, brother; Pete Salazar, nieces; Kayleigh Ford, Audrey Ford, Isla Sugimoto, and nephew; Steve Gallant.
A formal mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick’s Parish on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life Ceremony and Reception will be held immediately after at the Knights of Columbus Hall. The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out to us in our time of need.
