Cherished Brother, Uncle, and Friend
Abel R. Griego of Walsenburg, Colorado entered into rest, August 4, 2025 at Advent Health Center in Littleton, Colorado. He Was born to Rebecca and Faustino Griego, Sr. in Walsenburg, Colorado. July 9, 1957.
Abel was 68 years of age.
He left behind a legacy of warmth, devotion, and gentle spirit that touched all who knew him. A beloved brother, uncle, great uncle, and friend, Abel is survived by his siblings, Geraldine (Robert) Trujillo of Beaverton, Oregon; Rebecca “Louise” (Art Valdez) Griego of Walsenburg, Colorado; Michael (Yvonne) Griego of Walsenburg, Colorado and Jennifer (Greg) Urdiales of Walsenburg, Colorado.
He is preceded in death by his parents Rebecca and Faustino Griego, Sr., siblings, Debra Jo Griego, Veronica Griego, Elaine Griego, Joey Griego and Faustino Griego, Jr.
Abel’s family extends to many nieces and nephews: Tracie (Joaquin) Younger, Sara Gandomcar, Janna Gandomcar, Shyanne Urdiales, Isabela Urdiales, James Gandomcar, Robert (significant other Claudia) Trujillo Jr., Godson, Anthony (Cheyenne) Griego, Michael Ryan (Kayla Martinez) Griego; great nieces, Rebecca Younger, Jazlyn Gandomcar, Jazlynn Valdez-Griego, Tessa Jo Griego, Isla Griego, Wrenley Griego, and great nephews, Ethan Younger and Hunter Griego.
Abel’s vibrant personality shone through in his fondness for tie dye, classic rock music, and his enthusiasm for WWE Wrestling, the Colorado Rockies, and the Denver Broncos. He found joy in spending time with his family, attending barbecues, enjoying McDonald’s, riding horses, and reminiscing about his years working for the Railroad. Abel also delighted in word searches, playing cards, singing, and sharing laughter with his wonderful friends at his group home.
Above all, Abel will be remembered for the warmth he brought to every gathering, his unwavering devotion to those he loved, and his gentle spirit that offered comfort and kindness to all. The memory of Abel will remain a light in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he gave so generously.
