Obituary for Demetrio "Bernie" B. Vigil
Demetrio Bernabe “Bernie” Vigil of Walsenburg, Colorado peacefully entered into rest January 11, 2020 surrounded by his loving family in his Walsenburg home.
He was born in Costilla, New Mexico, October 14, 1935 to Eustacio and Maria Elena Vigil. He was 84 Years of age.
Bernie is survived by his beloved wife, Santana Eva Vigil of Walsenburg, Colorado, children; Virginia (Lawrence) Imprescia of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Dorothy (Ignacio Rivera) Vigil of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Richard Vigil of Walsenburg, Colorado, Gary (Rebecca Roller) Vigil Sr., of Walsenburg, Colorado, Donna Ramirez of Walsenburg, Colorado, Robert (Rhonda) Vigil of Garden City, Kansas, daughter in-law Ellen Vigil of Walsenburg, Colorado. He is a beloved Grandfather and survived by his 17 Grandchildren, 37 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, all of whom he dearly loved unconditionally. He is also survived by his sisters, Ida Serna, Dora Lopez and Bernadette Pieczynski.
Bernie is preceded in death by his parents, Eustacio and Maria Elena Vigil, brothers, Gilbert Vigil, Fred Vigil and Fernando Vigil.
He was affectionately known as Bro. Bernie to all that knew and loved him. He was born and raised in the small rural community of Costilla, New Mexico. Bernie was a Pastor for 36 years and he was an ordained minister for the Apostolic Assembly Church for 57 years. Bernie was a man of love for both his fellow man and especially his first love, God. His love for God was so deep within his mind, body and spirit that when his memory would fail him, the one thing that never did was his ability to recite God’s Word from memory. His love for God ran deep and until his last words and breath he praised the Lord. He will be sorely missed by his family, church, community and all those that knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 17, 2020
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the Emmanuel Apostolic Temple in Walsenburg. An interment will follow at the North Veta, Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home.
