Obituary for Eric Schneider
Eric Ian Schneider peacefully entered into rest at home August 21, 2016, in La Junta, Colorado at the age of 70, after a recent diagnosis of cancer.

Eric is survived by his wife Susan Dietrich Schneider of La Junta, his former wife and good friend Cathy Stark, his son Nathaniel and wife Christina, his son Eli, his brother Steven, his sister Lesley, his step-children Chris, Huxley and Daisy, and his three step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Ethel.

Eric was born on April 6, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated with a degree in philosophy from City University of New York. He lived in New York for many years, where he was an elementary schoolteacher, magazine editor, and songwriter. After leaving New York he lived in southern California, where he studied with and worked for the Est Training and Landmark Education. In California he married Cathy and their two sons were born there. In 1991, the family moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Eric continued his spiritual and personal transformation work and established himself as a Teacher of Forgiveness and ordained Interfaith Minister. In 2008, he came to La Junta and in 2009 married Susan. In 2013, he encouraged Susan to return to her music career and became her manager. For the last three years they have toured the world sharing their music.

Eric was a life-long student of spirituality, personal transformation, and inner peace. He was a committed follower of Zen Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh and was full of compassion for all living things. He believed in the power of forgiveness to heal the world and taught his own unique methods through his writings and his music. He wrote hundreds of songs to create love and joy and to inspire people to live fully and with integrity. He wasn’t content to just “exist” and he challenged everyone around him to join him in that commitment.

Who we are is a key, looking for a door to open

Who we are is a light, looking for some place to shine

Who we are is love, looking for a place to happen

Who we are is peace looking for its time.

-- Eric Schneider
