Obituary for Jleverto “Gilbert” Torrez
Jleverto “Gilbert” Torrez of Wichita, Kansas, peacefully entered into rest, August 9, 2019 in his home.
He was born to Mike and Rosa Torrez, June 9, 1956 in La Junta, Colorado. He was 63 years of age.
Gilbert is survived by his wife Melinda Torrez of Wichita, Kansas, sisters, Catalina (Jim) Harris of Plano, Texas, and Ledia (Mike) Ayala of Leoti, Kansas, brothers, Alvino Torrez of La Junta, Colorado, Pedro Torrez of La Junta, Colorado, Blas (Tammy) Torrez of Hugo, Colorado, Tim Torrez of Dodge City, Kansas and Joe (Darlene) Torrez of Santa Maria, California. Nieces and nephews, Michael Torrez, Eli Torrez, Tara Torrez-Jones, Sarah Torrez, Matt Torrez, Kerri Torrez-Britain, Chakka, Whitney and Quinty.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Rosa Torrez and his brother, Ed Torrez.
Gilbert worked in the gas industry for many years. He owned and operated a store where he sold a variety of Mexican goods to regular clients throughout the years. He was an avid traveler. Within his travels he went to Mexico and purchased much of his inventory for his store. His second love was his vending business in which he had vending machines in all of Wichita. Gilbert loved to meet people. He knew many people. Gilbert was a coin collector and an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. He will be greatly missed.
A 10:00 A.M. Rosary will be held, Friday, August 16, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe St. Patrick’s Catholic church followed by a 10:30 A.M. Funeral Mass. Father Wertin will be officiating.
Following the Funeral Mass a Committal Service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in La Junta, Colorado.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home of La Junta.
