Obituary for Jose Pedro Hernandez
It is with a heavy heart and many tears that the Hernandez family announces the passing of a beloved son, brother, father, and uncle, Jose Pedro Hernandez, 47, of Fremont, California and formerly of Ordway, Colorado.

Jose entered into rest peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2017, in Mountain View, California surrounded by several of his family members.  He was born to Mary and Jose (Carmen) Hernandez on January 6, 1970 in Ulysses, Kansas.  His family is comforted knowing Jose touched so many lives.

Jose graduated from Crowley County High School in 1988 and attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Phoenix, Arizona.  Jose was a Test Engineer and he worked in the technology industry in the Silicon Valley for 27 years.

Jose was the 2015-2016 President of the Filarmonica Recreio do Emigrante Portugues of Newark, California.  He was an enthusiastic musician and supporter of the philharmonic band for the last nine years and played alongside his son, JD.  Jose was active in the Portuguese community by lending a helping hand when needed, selling tickets for dinners and raffles, and helping set up, serve, and clean up after Portuguese functions.

Jose was an active member of the St. Edward Catholic Church in Newark, California.  His son, JD, is an alumni of St. Edward School.  Jose started and organized the annual Lenten Fish Fry and served on the Gala fundraising committee.  He was a third degree knight with the Knights of Columbus.

Jose enjoyed helping out with the Annual Crab Feed fundraiser and the Benefit Drawing Sales for the Golden Gate Boys Choir and Bellringers of San Francisco, California.  His son, JD, sings in the choir and is also a bell ringer.  Jose and JD travelled together to Washington, DC once and to Italy twice with the choir.

Jose was athletic and an avid Bronco fan.  He was very competitive especially when it came to board games like Monopoly, Trivia Pursuit, Dominos, and Risk.  Jose always had a smile on his face.  He was hard working, a man of faith, and a caring and generous person.

Jose is survived by his son, Jose David (JD) Hernandez of Fremont, California; his parents, Mary and Carmen Hernandez of Ordway, Colorado; and his grandmother, Esther Peña of Pueblo, Colorado.  Jose is also survived by his siblings, Carla Del Rio; Julie (Juan) Arana; Bernadette (Robert) Gump; James Hernandez; John Hernandez; Angela (Albert Cardenas) Hernandez; Jerome and Catina Hernandez; and Jacob Hernandez; eighteen nieces and nephews; five great nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  Jose was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pedro and Dominga Hernandez and grandfather, Angel Peña.
