Obituary for Julian Victor Salazar

Julian Victor Salazar was born on July 28th, 1954 in La Junta, CO and died unexpectedly on December 26th, 2023 in Colorado Springs. He attended the Catholic school at the La Junta Catholic Church and later graduated from La Junta High School. He joined the Army National Guard specializing in Artillery and Demolitions. Julian then obtained a job with the BNSF railroad and married Peggy Sue Corbin while living in Denver, CO. They had a son Nathaniel in 1985 and then after moving back to La Junta, CO were blessed with a second son, Daniel, in 1990.

A work injury and several hardships led the two to get divorced and Peggy moved her and the boys to Swink, CO to live with her father. Julian later remarried and moved to Las Animas, CO while working at Lewis Nut and Bolt. He enjoyed driving his motorcycle to and from work on Hwy 194. Julian and his second wife, Kathy, would later divorce and Julian moved to Pueblo to be closer to family and friends. At this time he worked for Ted’s Tire Service and also started a lucrative burrito business as cooking and baking were his true passions. Anyone who has tried his peanut butter and jelly cookies, dessert pizza or stuffed sopapillas with green chili can confirm.

Julian suffered a heart attack in August of 2022 and spent 30 days in the hospital in Pueblo. During this time, Nathaniel and Daniel arranged for their Dad to move back to La Junta so they could help him with his recovery and reconnect as a family. Julian was on dialysis three times a week and spent most of his time resting, typically watching his Westerns, The Three Stooges, Nuggets games and his most favorite; Broncos games. Julian loved cracking jokes and making people laugh. He loved jamming out to classic rock, often yelling at us to ‘Crank It!’ He was very good at making friends everywhere he went and everyone fortunate enough to spend time with him has a good story about him.

Julian was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann, his parents Jose and Juanita, brothers John and Manuel. Julian is survived by his sons Nathaniel and Daniel (Tenchita), granddaughter Ivie Hyatt, grandson Eli, brothers James, Bob, Marcelino, Ted, Tom, Mingo, sisters Frances and Bertha(Bobby) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

As per his request he has been cremated. Funeral services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe & St Patrick Catholic Church on January 26th at 10:00 AM. His burial is still pending. Donations can be made to Johnson-Romero Funeral Home
