Obituary for Lena A. Johnson
Lena Alice Johnson of La Junta, CO, and former long-time resident of Antonito, CO entered into rest in her La Junta home surrounded by her family. She was born to her parents, Anna and Frutoso DeHerrera in La Isla, CO, September 4, 1926. She was 89 years of age. She is survived by her children Joyce (Daniel) Lopez of Antonito, CO, Laura (Victor) Gavaldon of Fort Collins, CO, Chuck (Roseann) Johnson of Antonito, CO, Annette (Joel) Roybal of Antonito, CO, John (Cindy) Johnson of La Junta, CO. Eleven grandchildren; Jenny (Steve) Gillespie, Kevin (Mandy) Roybal, Katy Johnson, Jason (Nicole) Roybal, Jamie (Shaun) Kulish, Jocelyn (Dante) Flores, Carly Johnson, Vincent Gavaldon, Vance Johnson, Ashley Gavaldon and Justice (Ashley) Johnson. Great grandchildren, Mckenzie and Kyson Kulish, Sophia, Joe and Jimmy Howes, Brena Roybal, Tayden Flores, Wesley and Avery Roybal, Jaxen and Jaclyn Johnson. Siblings; Frutoso DeHerrera, Lilly (Aggie) Jiron, Herby (Betty) DeHerrera. Various nieces and nephews, many friends, and her little dog Bristol. She is preceded in death by her husband Joe C. "Swede" Johnson, parents Anna and Frutoso DeHerrera, brothers, Orlando (Ida) DeHerrera, Frank (Ida) DeHerrera, Chris DeHerrera, Fred DeHerrera, and Rosey (John) Goodbar. Nephews, Augustine DeHerrera, Conrad, Carl, Barnaby, Herby, Gary, David, and Baby Joan DeHerrera. Lena cherished her family. She loved spending time with them. They were her life! She was an incredibly generous person, and an amazing cook! She loved giving to everyone she knew. Whatever she cooked she shared. She never missed cooking a meal. She always had her children delivering food daily to neighbors and other families the community. Lena was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Leader of the American Legion Auxiliary Jrs. She was also the historian for the Knights of Columbus Woman's Auxiliary, and a member of the Fatima Rosary Group. She was the Bookkeeper for her husband's business, (Swedes Radio and TV Repair.) She also worked and later retired as a cafeteria cook from the South Conejos School District. She had the strongest work ethic and she took great pleasure in working hard. She never rested. She was loved by all who met her! She will truly be missed. A Memorial Tribute will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Parish Hall in Conejos, CO. A Holy Rosary will be held at 10:30 A.M.Saturday, January 23, 2016, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos, CO. Father Sergio Robles will be officiating. The Knights of Columbus Color Guard will be performing honors. Please bring your memories to share at Lena's Memorial Tribute on Friday night.
