Obituary for Majorie Ruth Auffrey
OBITUARY
Marjorie Ruth Auffrey died on April 20 , 2018 in Las Animas, CO.
She was 96 years old. She was born on March 8,1922 to Theodore and Anna La Fleur in Montreal, Canada. Marjorie grew up in Fall River,
Massachusetts, and graduated as Valedictorian of her Senior class in 1940 . She earned her Registered Nurse Degree in 1944 after graduation from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing.
Following her graduation she volunteered for the US Army Nurse Corps during WW II. While serving in the Philippines in 1945 she married her college sweetheart Joseph, " Jeff", Auffrey in her wedding dress made
out of a parachute. The couple borrowed their chaplain' s jeep to take a honeymoon. Their strong work ethic provided numerous job opportunities throughout the US, including Kentucky, I l l inois, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Colorado. They accepted RN positions at Fort Lyon, CO in 1968 where Marjorie was employed at the
VA Hospital there for 29 years. Since retiring Marge and Joe made their home in Las Animas, CO where they continued to enjoy spending time with their loving family. Never apart, Marge and Joe often took
long walks for health purposes as many community members can attest to. Much l ike the teachings of Florence Nightengale, Marjorie
knew the value of fresh air, sunshine, washing your hands, and taking walks to maintain a healthy l i festyle. Marge dedicated her l i fe to
her family. She valued education, and passed her love of learning on to her nine children. She also loved musicals, and could be seen watching her favorite ' Lawrence Welk Show' every Saturday night. Her generosity, loyalty, and selfless love was evident daily to each and everyone in her family. Marjorie was preceeded in death by one son, John, and one daughter, Margot, as well as her husband, Joe who passed away in
2013 . She is survived by her children, Michelle Brioschi of Boise, ID, Joseph Auffrey Jr. of Muskegon, MI, Lenore Behm of Boulder, CO, Corliss Netherton of Las Animas, CO, Chris Auffrey of Cincinnati, OH, Caroline Wagner of Las Animas, CO, Mary Auffrey of Golden, CO.,
her brother Charles La Fleur of FL, and all of her thirty four loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
