Richard Paul Whipple

Sunrise 09/30/1933 Sunset 03/22/2020

Richard Paul Whipple of Fowler, Colorado was born September 30, 1933 in the family home to Jacob Earl and Bernice Irene (Gilmore) Whipple. He was 86 years of age. He was Known by Paul for his entire life, he entered into rest March 22, 2020 at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Sharon Lea (Johnson) Whipple, and many of his siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Janet Whipple, who was his caregiver and is in the family home, Kathy (Marvin) Watson of Eads, CO, and Karen (Tod) Schiffer of Fowler, CO. He was also the proud “Grandpa” of four grandchildren: Amber (Mike) Asbury, Holli (John) Kennedy, Teyah Schiffer, and Thor Schiffer. He had one great granddaughter, Addy, and four step great granddaughters. He was also grandpa to several grand puppies. He was the youngest of thirteen children and was preceded in death by his brothers: Clarence, Fenton, Wayne, Thayne, and Jim and his sisters: Hazel, Ruby, and LaVerne. He is survived by three brothers: Don, Rex, and Tom and one sister: Jenny. He is also survived by one brother-in-law: Denny and two sisters-in-law: Shirley and Glada, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He grew up a Kansas farm boy, playing hard and working harder. Tragedy befell his family when his dad was killed by a hit and run, drunk driver when he was eleven years old. From that point on life changed, work became the focus to keep the family going. His mother went to work full time as school teacher, while the children who were still at home worked the family farm and milked cows. Many of his siblings were deployed in WW2. He graduated from Beeler High School in 1951 and attended college for two years at Kansas State University in Manhattan. On June 5, 1955 he married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Sharon. They moved to Denver, CO in early 1957 where Janet was born in July. He worked as an apprentice plumber under his brother-in-law and also earned his journeyman and master plumbing licenses. Kathy was born in 1959, and in January of 1960 they purchased a plumbing and heating business and moved to Fowler. Karen arrived in 1963 completing the family. He was a proud daddy to his family of girls. All of his girls attended Fowler schools from kindergarten through graduation. His daughters and grandchildren were greatly loved and extremely blessed to have been raised by such amazing parents and grandparents. In April of 2011 he lost his partner, friend and his other half, very suddenly. We all carried on but there was a huge hole left in our hearts and lives. God granted his fondest wish to be re-united with Sharon on March 22, 2020, just two weeks short of nine years after her passing.

He spent his entire career in service to others. He owned and operated Fowler Plumbing and Heating in Fowler for over 50 years. He once said he had been in homes of most of the residents of Fowler, and he usually went in the back door. Often people found him by looking in

the alleyways around town, as his work truck was very well known. He also served the community by being on the Fowler City Counsel for many years. While living, Sharon, was his receptionist, secretary, bookkeeper and right hand, while still remaining a loving wife and mom.

He was a Charter member of Faith Baptist Church, and held the office of Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Choir Director. He also spent many hours installing and maintaining the plumbing and heating at the church.

He loved his family, so many friends, and all kinds of animals. He was blessed to be a child of the King. He will be sorely missed by all his “girls” and their families. Our greatest joy is the knowledge of being “Absent from the body, but present with the Lord.” It is such solace to know that we will see him again.

His family would like to thank the Fowler EMS, the doctors and staff at Parkview Medical Center, our pastor, Stephen Anderson, and our host of family and friends for everything each of you has done.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home
