Obituary for Ted William Kuhns
Theodore William Kuhns of Las Animas, CO, entered into rest December 12, 2016 at the Bent County Healthcare Center in Las Animas, CO. Ted was born in Clarion County, PA, April 14, 1929 to William Wade and Flora Belle (Davis) Kuhns. He was 87 Years of age.
Ted is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara, daughter, Pamela (Nate) Valdez of Las Animas, CO, sons, David (Carol) Kuhns of Billings, MT, Douglas Kuhns (Elin Ora) of Lamar, CO and Donald (Shelly) Kuhns of Pueblo West, CO. Grandchildren, Nate Valdez, William Valdez, Amelia Valdez, Nick Kuhns, Anna Kuhns, Casey Kuhns, Anamda Kuhns, Zach Kuhns.
He was preceded in death by his only sister Marcella (Joe) Hacket of Levittown, PA.
Ted was raised on the family farm. He graduated from Clarion High School in 1947 and enrolled in Clarion State Teachers’ College. Later he transferred to Penn State College. When Uncle Sam called he joined the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to the FDR Aircraft Carrier during the Korean Conflict. He married Barbara Heasley on May 30, 1953 in Reno, PA. Following his service to his country, he enrolled in Pittsburg Institute of Mortuary Science. He embarked on a career as a funeral director in Titusville, PA and later in Clintonville, PA. In 1974 he moved his family to Las Animas, CO where he was employed by Almont to run the Powell Funeral Home. Ted Bought the Funeral Home and it became the Powel-Kuhns Mortuary. Ted was in the funeral business for over 50 years. Ted was active in the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce and he was a member of the first Baptist Church. Following his retirement, he and Barbara bought a mountain home where they enjoyed their summers with friends and family. Ted was proud of his community and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Las Animas.
