Obituary for "Abbie"
Abenicio “Abbie” Cordova died peacefully at home in Walsenburg, Colorado on October 18, 2021 at the age of 77. Abbie was born on April 13, 1944 to Ercilia Cordova and John B. Cordova in Walsenburg and he attended local schools. During his later school years and afterward he worked with his father for the Boise Memorial Chapel of Walsenburg. He also attended Trinidad Junior College where he received training and certification as an auto-body repairman and auto painter. Later, he went on to work in a variety of jobs including as a painter of military vehicles at the Army Depot in Pueblo where he worked for 16 years, and in various other trades in locations including Commerce City working at the Samsonite Corporation manufacturing and distribution of luggage in the 1970s, and after that in the construction industry in Colorado Springs and Walsenburg and at the CF&I's Maxwell Mine near Trinidad, Colorado.
Along the way, Abbie met the love of his life Jeanette Espinoza and they were life-mates for 47 years. He was an outgoing and friendly man who treated everyone with respect, he was easy to get along with and he loved to tell jokes and had many friends with whom he enjoyed an occasional beer. He enjoyed playing guitar and listening to Mexican music, he loved to work on old cars and he got a kick out of wearing his Gatsby flat caps and, he was always ready for a card game of “Chante.” He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Abbie was preceded in death by his parents, Ercilia and Juan, his son, Angelo A. Cordova and brothers, Modesto Cordova and Richard Cordova.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Espinoza) Cordova, daughter, Gabriella (Eric Quintana) Cordova, and children from his previous marriage; Jimmy, Abigail (and grandson Gino) and Michael, and various other grandchildren, his brothers, Enos (Irene) Cordova and Donald (Marla) Cordova and sister, Rose (Edward) Ibanez and numerous nephews and nieces.
A service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home.
