Joseph “Gene” Griggs of Denver, Colorado, entered rest May 17, 2018 in Aurora, CO, at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home at Fitzsimons.
He was born to Annie and Henry Griggs, April 8, 1923 in Manzanola, CO.
He was 95 years of age.
Joe is survived by his children; Tom (Barbara) Griggs of Tallahassee, FL, Jack (Sandy) Griggs of Westminster, CO, Bonnie Jo (John) Ohlrogge of Henderson, KY. Grandchildren; Candace (Jamie) Austrich, Tracy (Tony) Blackburn, Brandi (Zachary) McIntosh, Chad Griggs, Brad (Josie) Griggs, Natalie (William) Garner, Robert (Lindy) Gutierrez, Anna (Jaila) Hallett, Sara (Chris) Garcia and Liza Ohlrogge. Several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Joe is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Lee Griggs and 3 brothers.
He served his country during WWII and flew a Douglas C47 Cargo Aircraft Plane in the Army Air Corp. He retired as a superintendent of Rocky Mountain Water Company, a Subdivision of Adolph Coors. He enjoyed farming, gardening and fishing. His family was the most important thing to him by far, especially his grandchildren, but his life revolved around his wife Betty.
A 10:00 A.M. Rosary will be held Saturday May 26, 2018 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, Colorado followed by a 10:30 A.M. Funeral Mass. A Committal with Military Honors will be held at the Manzanola Cemetery.
Father Paul Ekeh will be officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of the Johnson-Romero Family Funeral Home.
